the perennial strip on Gran Capitán

In this month of May, when the calendar is full of gardening-related events, both nationally and internationally, such as Girona Temps de Flors which begins this weekend, or the International Garden Festival of Allariz which will be inaugurated on the 17th.

At an international level, we must highlight the London Chelsea Flower Show which this year celebrates its 100th anniversary and will open its doors from May 21st to 25th. Or the International Festival of Ponte de Lima in Portugal which will begin at the end of this month.

In this context, marked by these events, we present this strip of perennials and evergreens, which like the gardens of the aforementioned Festivals, is now beginning to be in its phase of maximum exuberance. This strip functions as a border for the slope present in one of the green spaces on Gran Capitán Street in Barcelona, a project by municipal landscape architect Gabino Carballo. In it we can see an interesting way of working with some of the plants produced by Sala Graupera, among which the following species stand out:

Gaura lindheimeri “Siskiyou Pink”

Anigozanthos flavidus

Bulbine frutescens “Hallmarck”

Perowskia “Blue Spire”

Kniphofia “Alcazar”

Tulbaghia violacea

This composition is developed from the following scheme structured in modules:

Scheme modular of planting with Gaura, Bulbine and Tulbaghia in border

The sequence of modules is repeated along the perimeter of the slope, enhancing the linearity of this space and creating a large strip of color that, from spring to autumn, becomes the center of attention of this succinct but interesting passage.
