This last weekend of April the XI Iturraran Collection Plants Fair took place. The Fair had the participation of 48 nurserymen of different nationalities to present their collections, which have ranged from plants originating from the different Mediterranean regions of Sala Gruapera, to collections of acidophilic plants, cacti, orchids, ferns, tillandsias and other unique plants.
The Fair took place in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Despite the rain of the weekend, the attendance at the Fair was not diminished. Most of the attendees were knowledgeable about plants and therefore familiar with the plant material that was offered and among which the varieties presented by Sala Graupera have had great acceptance in this first year of participation in the Fair.
Next to the Sala Graupera / Eco-Gardening stand, there was a large tree-sized specimen of Ceanothus thyrsiflorus “El Dorado”, in full bloom, which has been a pole of attraction for visitors and the best introduction for the most purchased plant from the Sala Graupera collection to be another variety of this species, Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. repens. This species is characterized by its creeping habit and dense growth. It is an evergreen plant, with an intense and showy early flowering, which is concentrated between late winter and early spring, characterized by its light blue color that contrasts with the intense green of the leaves. It is a very drought-resistant plant and resistant to sea breeze.
Other plants that have generated interest among attendees have been the multiple varieties of Grevillea with which the Sala Graupera catalog counts; about their characteristics and care you can find a post dedicated to them on this blog. On the other hand, also highlight the Leptospermum karo “Silver Ice”, a medium-sized shrub whose spring flowering in white has attracted attention and has had great acceptance among visitors.
The assessment of the Fair both by the organization and by Sala Graupera has been very positive, so it seems that next year we will again have this Fair as an important appointment on the calendar for plant enthusiasts and with the presence of Sala Gruapera for the second consecutive year.
