Sustainable Gardening at PARJAP 2016

Within the framework of the AEPJP Congress held this week in Huesca, the Cities of Colors. Floral Solutions proposal was presented.

This innovative proposal, inspired by French savoir faire, offers different alternatives to dress urban green spaces with flowers and plants of high ornamental value. Among them are the Ornamental Massif, the Flowered Carpet, the Sustainable Garden and the Flower Seeding, which allow proposing exclusive solutions adapted to each particular situation.

The Congress also featured a presentation in which Linda Guidi presented how these aspects are addressed in France, and afterwards Ignasi Calvo explained the proposals that Cities of Colors presents adapted to our latitude, which was received with great acceptance and interest from the attendees.

On this occasion, we will highlight the Sustainable Gardening proposal. This option is designed to be located at city entrances, urban communication axes, roundabouts and medians, residential areas, public facilities, and parks and gardens.

Sustainable gardening planting with low-water herbaceous plants

It is characterised by being composed of herbaceous plants with minimal requirements for irrigation, fertilizers and maintenance; offering the possibility of having profuse and varied colors and blooms from spring to early autumn, but without losing interest throughout the year through other resources, such as plant habit, colored foliage, the occasional use of late or early flowering species, and the seasonal variability offered by some perennial and evergreen species.

The Sustainable Gardening proposal made for the Congress is located in the Miguel Servet park in Huesca, within the flower bed where the commemorative tree of the Congress was planted.

The composition is made up of a wide variety of species, among which we highlight: Verbena bonariensis, Gaura, Phormium, Salvia ‘Royal Bumble’, Stipa tenuissima, Thymus serpyllum, Matricaria tchihatchewii and Festuca glauca, among others.

We already made reference to and provided a brief explanation of some of these species in a previous post. In upcoming posts, we will detail the characteristics of the other species that make up this composition, as well as the different solutions that Cities of Colors offers.
