Lausanne Jardins 2014 (I)

Last weekend the garden festival Lausanne Jardins 2014 was inaugurated. The current edition of this international event, which takes place every four years in this Swiss city, was presented under the theme Landing, and with it projects were sought that would develop concepts such as mobile gardens and proposals with an important experimental component.

At Lausanne Jardins the interventions are located throughout the city in different spaces, from emblematic places or passage places in the center, installations within large parks or buildings to other corners of the city. The gardens are visitable to the public from the 14th until October 11th.

The selected proposals come from various countries such as Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Holland, Sweden, Great Britain or the USA and of course Switzerland. Which was represented not only by the winning proposals of the competition but also by six winning gardens from an internal competition within the city’s parks and gardens service itself. Thus finally the festival is formed by the 21 winning projects from a total of 398 submitted proposals, the six gardens from the city’s parks service and two itinerant interventions.

Of these gardens some stand out for their originality, others for their conceptual approaches closely linked to the initial guidelines of the ideas competition, others for their location in the most unsuspected places of the city or for having a very marked decorative character that contrasts with what we are usually accustomed to see in public space.

We show you some below:

Garden Places of parcs with fragmentos of parques suizos in plazas of parking

Places de parcs

This singular intervention, which recalls some land art works, brings to the festival a piece of different parks from Switzerland, and seated on platforms they temporarily occupy the parking spaces on Av. Vinet.

Garden Pick-up flowers with flowers for llevar in the Place Riponne

Pick-up flowers

This curious garden, which besides functioning as such, visitors can take the flowers home, hence its name, in exchange for leaving 50 cents for each one of them. Located in the central Pl. Riponne, it also served as a catwalk for some of the events held during the festival’s inauguration.

Micro-garden alpino Par monts et par vaux in the Catedral of Lausana

Par monts et par vaux

This alpine micro-garden, is located inside the Lausanne Cathedral, and in it large marble blocks dominate that symbolize the Swiss mountains, accompanied by a carpet formed, mostly, by different varieties of Sedum.

Instalación nPOD with plants crasas in burbujas of vidrio in Hermitage Park

n’POD

This intervention located in one of the city’s large parks, Hermitage Park, shows a collection of succulent plants, located inside decorative glass bubbles, like a mini-greenhouse. Among the plants present we can find some Mediterranean climate species cultivated by Sala Graupera such as Aeonium arboreum antropurpureum.

Lausanne Jardins is formed by many more gardens than those we have shown you now, but soon we will show you some more.
